Yeni Metin Yeni Tiyatro (New Text New Theatre) is an international, long-term project that focuses mainly on new forms of playwriting. It is organised by the VeDST Theatre Company, an internationally well-known theatre group reknowned for its contemporary understanding of theatre in Turkey, in co-operation with the Istanbul based, independent arts space GalataPerform with the support of the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency's Performing Arts Directorate.

Although the main focus of the project is the text, that is to say the play, Yeni Metin Yeni Tiyatro is not only interested in new plays but also in the relationship between new forms of playwriting and different means of theatre such as directing, acting, dramaturgy and stage design, as well as the social dynamics which bring these new forms into life. Hence, one of the major aims of the project is to discuss the emergence of new forms of staging plays, as well as the development of both new research methodologies and dramaturgical approaches used for analyzing new plays.

Nevertheless, the examination of  how young and contemporary playwrights relate to local and present themes, is a very important point of origin regarding Yeni Metin Yeni Tiyatro, a project which aims to gather young theatre artists, theatre critics and scholars who work within the field of drama.

In this context, we would like to investigate the evaluation of new forms of playwriting on a local basis, that is to say in Turkey, and to explore similar theatrical practices in the Balkans, Central, Eastern and Northern Europe and the Middle East. Besides, we would like to support emerging playwrights through staged readings of plays and discussions as well as to encourage young people to write theatre plays through several workshops led by professional playwrights and/ or dramaturgs.
